How’s your website performing? If you're like most businesses you’ve given it the SEO treatment, and then pretty much left it alone. You’re probably too busy out there drumming up business to focus on the shop window. But you might change your priorities when you’ve finished reading this article – about Inbound Marketing.

We focus exclusively on Inbound Marketing – no advertising, no PR, no email marketing and no outbound phone calls. We rely on the content we publish and the social media to bring us prospects – for free.

This technique is both in its infancy and a moving target, so there aren’t too many experts to learn from, or success stories to emulate. It’s pretty much a case of get stuck in, see what you get and keep refining what you do.

Here’s the latest report we got from Website Grader, ranking Front Office Box at 93/100 for our site (which includes the blog) and 81.32 for the blog on its own. You’ll see in the report the site ranks 141,655 out of 2,042,534 sites checked by Website Grader. Standing behind more than 141,000 sites may not immediately sound impressive at first. But it impresses the hell out of me, given what we’ve been able to put into it. For context there’s probably more than 100 million sites out there (most of them spam or inactive). The more than 2 million Website Grader has checked are serious contenders – proper sites, with good money spent on them. Now that 141,000 sounds better.

The one aspect we lose grade on is readability. The report tells us the reading level of my articles is Advanced/Doctoral when it should be a reading age of 12. Well our topics are Advanced/Doctoral subjects so probably we’ll have to live with that criticism.

The report goes into a lot of detail but this screen shot shows the headline.

The report also grades our Twitter account at 99.22 or ranked 45,903. Reports suggest Twitter had more than 75 million user accounts as of October 2009, so our number is pretty good.
